Borusan Music Library
Turkey’s first private music library, the Borusan Music Library served students and musiclovers for long years on two floors of Borusan Sanat’s previous headquarters on Istiklal Street.
The library’s collection contained a wide array of materials on contemporary classical music, opera, jazz, rock, and rhythm and blues, ethnomusicology and music history. The archive houses 8,500 books, 7,000 music scores with the audiovisual department containing 10,500 CDs, 3,000 LPs, 150 videos and 100 DVDs as well as an AV center fully equipped with state-of-the-art devices for listening to CDs and LPS as well as viewing videos and DVDs.
One of the most important sections of the library was the Contemporary Turkish Composers Section, the largest collection of its kind in Turkey. A project was commenced for the digitalization of Turkish composers’ scores, the first name being the distinguished composer İlhan Usmanbaş. In 2014 Borusan Sanat donated the Borusan Music Library to Istanbul Technical University’s Center for Advanced Studies in Music (MIAM) to serve a wider audience. Digitalization of the scores of contemporary Turkish composers are still in progress.
