During the 2019-2020 season, BIPO will be sharing the stage of the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar ICEC with Ray Chen, Yeol Eum Son, Miloš Karadaglić, Dorothea Röschmann, Angela Gheorghiu, Alexander Gavrylyuk, Andreas Ottensamer, Yuri Bashmet, Pablo Ferrández, Harriet Krijgh, Ekaterina Siurina, Elena Maximova, Peter Sonn and Bogdan Baciu.

Season Opening Concert with Ray Chen
BIPO hosts a violin virtuoso with truly impeccable technique and skilful interpretation to match: Ray Chen. Chen is a talent praised world-wide who has won the first place at 2008 Yehudi Menuhin and 2009 Queen Elisabeth competitions and received the ECHO Klassik for his album released in 2017.  The music authorities refer to him as the artist who redefined what it means to be a classical musician. Ray Chen will usher in the season accompanied by BIPO.

A Concert Dedicated to Mozart
Classical music lovers are in for a feast at this concert comprised solely of Mozart’s compositions. Gürer Aykal will be conducting BIPO accompanying pianist Yeol Eum Son. The concert where La Clemenza di Tito, KV 491 Piano Concerto, KV 165 “Exultate jubilate” and Symphony in C Major will be performed is a tribute to the grand master of classical music.

A Turkey Premiere...
Borusan Sanat has been bringing its audience the work it has commissioned to distinguished composers since 2007. This season, a concert where BIPO under the direction of Diego Matheuz will be accompanying the eminent guitarist Miloš Karadaglić awaits you. Miloš Karadaglić is a guitar virtuoso that has marked a turning point in his career with his first solo album and is currently enjoying worldwide fame. The concerto for orchestra and guitar titled “Ink Dark Moon” commissioned by BIPO, BBC Philharmonic and Festival de Saint-Denis to the young English composer Joby Talbot, will make its Turkey premiere at Lütfi Kırdar.

Ready to enjoy a concert with İlber Ortaylı?
One of the most unusual concerts of this season is without a doubt “A Golden Page from The History of Music”. Historian Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı will be delivering a speech on history simultaneously during the concert. Our followers are familiar with the soloist of the concert, ECHO Klassik winner Dorothea Röschmann. The lied interpreter and opera soloist is one of the most successful sopranos of our times.

A Memorable New Year’s Concert!
BIPO greets the new year with Angela Gheorghiu, one of the greatest stars of the opera scene. The soprano has always received praise and admiration since she stepped on the stage in 1992 and has enchanted music lovers at concerts and operas around the world ever since. Music critics refer to her as a rare phenomenon of opera history, while the artist’s extraordinary technique and deeply dramatic, and musical intelligence appeals to the hearts and minds of the audience. Gheorghiu, who has achieved the unusual feat of carrying the highest values of classical music to a worldwide audience, comes together with BIPO under the direction of Ludovic Morlot for the BIPO New Year’s Concert.

Celebrating Beethoven’s 250th Birthday
BIPO commemorates one of the greatest composers of all times for his art, for his life and his passion for music, in two concerts titled “Tribute to Beethoven”... Beethoven is a genius that was an endless source of inspiration for 19th-century composers as well as today’s composers, who has shaped the future of music with an expression that went well beyond his time... At the “Tribute to Beethoven – I” concert to be held at the end of January BIPO will perform 5th Piano Concerto and 5th Symphony as well as his famous Coriolan Overture. Beethoven developed a distinctive new way of narration, and his Piano Concerto No. 5 is one of his greatest works that has profoundly influenced and shaped the romantic piano school. At the concert, Alexander Gavrylyuk will deliver a rendition of this work with his poetic and exhilarating performance. At the season closing concert titled “Tribute to Beethoven – II”, BIPO under Sascha Goetzel, Salzburg Bach Choir under Alois Glassner, soprano Ekaterina Surina, mezzo-soprano Elena Maximova, tenor Peter Sonn and baritone Bogdan Baciu will deliver a rendition of Beethoven’s unforgettable Symphony No. 9 and Pärt’s Seven Magnificat Antiphons.

BIPO meets Jazz!
The concert will open with star clarinettist Andreas Ottensamer’s rendition of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1 and will proceed with Marsalis’ Swing Symphony. In 2009 Ottensamer interrupted his studies at Harvard to become a scholar of the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He is currently the principal clarinettist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Seasoned and young stars of the classical music world...
In the new season, BIPO will be hosting Yuri Bashmet, Pablo Ferrández and Harriet Krijgh. At the end of February, BIPO under the direction of the world-famous Grammy-winning conductor John Nelson will perform works by Schubert, Schnittke and Schumann. In this concert viola virtuoso, Yuri Bashmet will present the audience with an extraordinary rendition of Schnittke’s Concerto for Viola and Orchestra dedicated to Bashmet. As for the end of March, we are looking forward to seeing our audience at the BIPO & Pablo Ferrández concert where renditions of Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations and Symphony No. 5 will be presented. At this concert, Diego Matheuz who was brought up in El Sistema will be conducting BIPO, and the young star of the cello Pablo Ferrández will deliver a remarkable performance with his passionate style. In April, BIPO under the direction of our honorary conductor Gürer Aykal will meet violinist Harriet Krijgh and present a selection from Elgar.
