One of the most productive composers of contemporary classical music, Mark-Anthony Turnage has created a work inspired by visual arts and commissioned by The Borusan İstanbul Philharmonic Orchestra, the Essen Philharmonic, and The Trans-Siberian Art Festival that brings a breath of fresh air to the double violin concerto repertoire. The concerto made its world premiere at the Opening Concert of BIPO’s 2017-2018 season, briefly afterwards it was included in BIPO’s European Tour repertoire and performed in Essen, Ljubljana, Vienna, and Zurich. BIPO’s new CD consists of live recordings of Turnage’s “Shadow Walker” and Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” has recently been released under the ONYX label. The album was recorded live at the Musikverein’s Great Hall in Vienna. During the concert, Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra under Sascha Goetzel accompanied famous violin virtuosos Vadim Repin and Daniel Hope. In the second half of the concert, BIPO delivered a masterful performance of Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique.” The album that displays a drawing by one of the prominent romantic painters Goya on its cover will be released in Turkey.
