Between 4 and 11 April 2025, the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic Orchestra (BIPO) successfully completed its United Kingdom tour, marking another significant achievement in its artistic journey. Under the baton of its Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Carlo Tenan, the orchestra performed in five cities, presenting a distinguished programme featuring works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Camille Saint-Saëns, Franz Schubert and Ferit Tüzün, with cellist Pablo Ferrández as soloist.

As it marks its 25th season, BIPO has been honoured with invitations from some of Europe’s leading concert halls, making its debut before audiences in the United Kingdom. The orchestra gave five concerts in five cities: at Perth Concert Hall as part of its 125th anniversary season, at Usher Hall (Edinburgh) in the Sunday Classics series, at London’s Cadogan Hall as part of the Zurich International Orchestra Series, and within the regular season programmes of G Live (Guildford) and Sheffield City Hall. BIPO was met with enthusiastic applause and standing ovations, receiving critical acclaim and a warm reception from audiences.

Following a seven-year break from international touring, BIPO returned to the global stage with a magnificent opening concert in Perth on 5 April, marking the start of its United Kingdom tour. On 6 April, the orchestra performed at Usher Hall—one of Edinburgh’s foremost concert venues—and on 8 April at London’s Cadogan Hall. Both concerts marked a special occasion, as these prominent halls hosted a Turkish orchestra for the first time in many years. The final two stops of the tour, Guildford, and Sheffield, saw BIPO deliver vibrant performances that offered audiences an unforgettable evening. Welcomed with great interest and appreciation throughout the tour, BIPO once again demonstrated the depth of its 25 years of musical experience through five remarkable performances across the UK.

Accompanying renowned cellist Pablo Ferrández—one of the leading musicians of his generation—BIPO performed works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Camille Saint-Saëns, Ferit Tüzün and Muammer Sun. In line with our commitment to introducing Turkish music to international audiences, the tour programmes featured works by Turkish composers. Ferit Tüzün’s orchestral suite Nasreddin Hoca, performed in the London and Sheffield concerts, and our encore piece, Muammer Sun’s Dönüşüm, were met with great appreciation by the audience.

Following its United Kingdom tour, BIPO’s next concert destinations will be Flensburg, as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and Hamburg, where it will take the stage at the Elbphilharmonie as the first Turkish orchestra to do so.
