In this season’s second concert to be directed by BIPO’s honorary conductor Gürer Aykal, we will listen to a selection of works by the master composers of Russian music: Prokofiev, Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky. The concert’s soloist, Valeriy Sokolov, has a dedicated audience that follows him at his shows in major concert halls worldwide, such as Théâtre du Châtelet, Wigmore Hall, Lincoln Center and Musikverein. Sokolov will perform Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto no.2 for this concert with BIPO. When he performed the same work in Leipzig, he received a standing ovation and was praised by music critics with the words “A natural born fiddler. It is a profound meditation that Sokolov’s magnificent violin draws.” The winner of the George Enescu International Competition, one of the most prestigious violin competitions, Sokolov is one of the most outstanding artists of his generation. The works included in the programme, “A Night on the Bare Mountain” by Mussorgsky and “Francesca da Rimini” by Tchaikovsky, clearly show that BIPO and Gürer Aykal will turn this concert into an unforgettable night.
