Leonard Bernstein’s devotion to West Side Story and the depth of his feelings infused in every note of it becomes clearer every time its recorded, rehearsed or performed. Maybe that’s why he dedicated the two-piano and percussion version of the “Symphonic Dances”, a suite he extracted from his beloved work, to two artists worthy of his artistic perfectionism: Güher and Süher Pekinel. For West Side Story, the world-renowned piano duo, who have been an inspiration to many composers like Bernstein, will present a selection of works written or adapted for two pianos and percussion. The Pekinels will share the stage with percussionists of the Berlin Philharmonic, Raphael Haeger and Simon Rössler.
