“QANUN & PIANO DUO”

Esra Berkman & Lilian Tonella Tüzün’s new album New Music for Kanun and Piano will meet with the audience at Borusan Music House. The piano and qanun were born on different continents centuries ago and became valuable representatives of their own musical world. This time, we present the new musical language of these instruments revisited through the contemporary techniques of the 21st century! After a series of domestic and international concerts and the album Uyanış (2013), the Kanun Piano Duo commissioned contemporary Turkish composers, whose contributions in the form of adaptations and original works created a unique repertoire. The album features Tolga Zafer Özdemir's Ex Orient Lux, Enis Gümüş's Başına Bağlamış Astar, Uğraş Durmuş's At Haliç No.2 and At Haliç No.8, Onur Türkmen’s Kanun ve Piyano için Anımsamalar and Semih Korucu’s pieces titled Melioristik Etüdler and Ninniler. In addition to the selected works to be played from the album, Duo will present a total of five more works, two of which were performed for the first time, in this concert. These include Çetin Işıközlü's Serenades for solo kanun and solo piano, Marcus Siqueira's Dut Ağacı Boyunca for Duo, Enis Gümüş's Geçmişe Doğru, and finally Meliha Doğuduyal's Mirrors of Time.
