In the first of the highly anticipated concerts directed every season by BIPO’s honorary conductor Gürer Aykal, we celebrate our state artist orchestra conductor’s 80th birthday. Pianist Joonas Ahonen, who has recorded outstanding albums of the works of groundbreaking composers of the 20th century, such as Charles Ives, George Antheil and Arnold Schoenberg, will be the soloist. After his concerts in Finland and the Netherlands in October, Ahonen will be in İstanbul to perform Piano Concerto No.1, one of the world-famous works by composer, musicologist and educator Ahmed Adnan Saygun. After the concerto, which was completed in 1957 and first performed in Brussels in 1958, the concert will continue with Prokofiev’s orchestral suites, one of the most beautiful musical depictions of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
